Block Detector Module for DBM

The BDM is an input module for the DBM signal controller.  The BDM provides for the input of up to eight (8) block detectors.

Block Detector Compatibility

The BDM is compatible with any open-collector or open-drain output block detector.  Many third party detectors provide this type of output.  A detector with this type of interface connects its output to the negative supply (ground) when a train is detected.  The block detector must work on the same voltage supply or have a common negative (ground) connection.

Function

The BDM provides a 3 second ‘loss-of-shunt’ (LOS) timer.  Prototypical railroads use these timers to ensure that rusty or contaminated rail does not allow for momentary loss of train detection with track circuits.  Model railroads are even more susceptible of loss-of-shunt events for rolling stock with high-resistance wheel-sets.
